Arab Contractors Company was awarded for its outstanding role in restoring St. George Church in Old Cairo, receiving the Best Global Restoration Project Award according to the 2017 ranking by the widely recognized ENR magazine.
The project took 30 months to complete, using the latest technological methods and relying entirely on 100% Egyptian skilled engineers, technicians, and workers.
The restoration process was carried out on three main axes:
1. Architectural Restoration:
Included the restoration of interior and exterior stones, floors, marble, modern and antique paints, woodwork, and brickwork.
2. Structural Restoration:
Covered the belt tie around the church, dome cracks and injections, reinforcement of the eight main columns using F.R.P, and treatment of the concrete slab flooring.
3. Detailed Restoration:
Focused on icons and murals within the dome.
During the restoration, the team discovered an archaeological floor beneath the mosaic flooring, which required immediate lifting, documentation, and preservation.
For the first time in Africa and the Middle East, carbon fiber sheets imported from Switzerland were used in the restoration process.
